--KOLADE OLAJIRE OLUWATIMILEHIN An essential tool for a good training and development of the mind is EDUCATION which awolowo makes as the first cardinal programme of his socialist party.Whether in Africa,Asia, Russia or America education and discipline of the mind are seen as essential to the improvement of the individual and of the society as a whole.An educated carpenter will be more efficient than an illiterate carpenter, and the same can be said of the farmers, builders, even traditional healers.
But more importantly,the education and training of the minds of those who aspire to leadership is absolutely essential, particularly the kind that is needed for the cultivation of mental magnitude.As awolowo himself suggests ,to make a success of governing the nation, Nigerian leaders should possess comprehension, mental magnitude and spiritual depth.
Awolowo death should not be the end of an era of ideological leadership, people like awolowo should dominate the political landscape of this country,we need to propound theories of development,we need to enthrone intellectualism over mediocrity. Awolowo is gone but is memory lingers in but our conscious and subconscious mind.
Yesterday,clocked thirty one years of the demise of our political sage and I took time to study the ideology of awoism and how is political ideologies can be resuscitated to solve the menace in the Nigerian state. Awo is an institution to be studied.May his gentle and significant soul rest in peace.
